This week, we've been working hard to elevate our kicking game! We've been utilising large kick pads to refine our technique and generate maximum power.

The energy in the dojang was electric, and everyone was eager to keep practicing these powerful kicks. In response to the overwhelming enthusiasm, we've decided to incorporate more kick pad training into our regular lesson plans.

To help you continue your kicking journey at home, here are 5 essential tips:

  1. Knee Height: The height of your knee lift directly influences the height of your kick. A higher knee lift leads to a higher kick.

  2. Hip Powerhouse: Engage your hips to generate explosive power in your kicks. A strong hip drive will significantly amplify the force of your strikes.

  3. Penetrate the Pad: Aim to go through the pad, not just hit the surface. This mental focus will help you maintain proper form and deliver powerful kicks.

  4. Solid Stance, Strong Kicks: A stable stance is crucial for balanced and effective kicks. Ensure your base is solid to prevent loss of balance and maximise power.

  5. Stabilise your stance: After delivering a kick, re-chamber your leg to prepare for the next strike. This technique allows for fluid combinations and maintains your balance.

...and finally, a quick tip for pad holders:

To avoid unexpected strikes, remember to keep the pad away from your face. Position it at a safe distance to protect yourself while providing a target for your training partner.

By incorporating these tips into your training routine, you'll be well on your way to mastering powerful and precise kicks. Keep training hard and let your kicks soar!
